A focus on turning around the lives of Louisiana’s youth has led to the design and construction of the new Acadiana Center for Youth on a site in the town of Bunkie, Avoyelles Parish.
Mechanical engineering firm, Barron Heinberg & Brocato, leads the way in designing a high-efficiency HVAC system for the facility.
Turning Vanes & Rail systems were provided by Aero-Dyne.
Turning vanes offer the highest operational efficiency
Our product was chosen for this project because our turning vanes contribute to a higher operational efficiency, an important determinant when state tax dollars are being used to fund ongoing operations of the center.
Because of the structural design of our vane and rail system, the HVAC system will have to work ‘less hard’ thereby reducing operating costs and increasing the lifetime value of the system.
Acadiana Center for Youth (ACY) is under construction — the facility will comprise nine buildings, including administration, housing units, gymnasium, a school with classrooms and a vocational-technical area, a kitchen and dining hall and maintenance buildings.
Included on the site will be a soccer field and outdoor basketball court. A state-of-the art, 12 foot tall arched barrier (“candy cane”) no-climb fence will encircle the perimeter.
According to news about the center, “the detention center will use a therapeutic treatment model that has been put in place at all of Louisiana’s youth prisons.
The model emphasizes counseling and teaching social skills and problem-solving techniques. Youth are housed in small groups, rather than large dorms for more intensive treatment.”
